Book I · The Forgotten Word

The Forgotten Word

A Wrenfolk record-keeper finds a stone tablet in his uncle's flooded basement. It is wrapped in oilskin, carefully placed, and written in a script that matches no known language — except fragments of a dead dialect tied to a disgraced linguist in a town three days' ride away.

Sable Dunmore does not go looking for trouble. He goes looking for an accurate record. What he finds instead is a company of five very different people, a mountain range that does not behave like mountains should, and the first suggestion that the world has been forgetting something important for a very long time.
